This stormwater pond captures and temporarily stores runoff from more than 32 acres of mostly impervious land in and around the City of Hilltop. The MWMO funded reconstruction of the pond, which drains through stormsewers into the nearby Mississippi River. The new design, which provides a deeper basin with retaining walls, adds storage capacity while also providing some filtration to remove pollutants.

In addition to preventing flooding, the rebuilt pond captures an estimated 62 percent of sediment and 30 percent of phosphorus from the stormwater. Prior to the reconstruction, the pond offered no filtration of pollutants from incoming stormwater. Many years of sediment buildup had also reduced the pond’s storage capacity.
