Community Outreach Specialist

The Community Outreach Specialist is responsible for the development and implementation of community and youth outreach programs for the Mississippi Watershed Management Organization. The individual works in partnership with cities, neighborhoods, schools and other community and youth-serving organizations to deliver programs that connect people with the Mississippi River and the surrounding watershed with the ultimate goal to protect and improve water quality and habitat in the watershed.

Projects and Grant Specialist

The Projects and Grant Specialist collaborates with member communities, partners, and staff to integrate and execute MWMO capital improvement and stewardship projects, non-point pollution prevention, and integrated water resource capital planning. In addition to functioning as a collaborator, the position serves as a consultant and content expert, consulting with member community stakeholders and project partners to identify and understand their needs, providing technical support and input to regulatory agencies, and ensuring all program implementation efforts achieve the goals, policies, and standards reflected in the organization’s comprehensive Watershed Management Plan and mission.

Internship Program — General Info

MWMO interns work with staff and partner organizations to implement MWMO programs in nonpoint source pollution prevention, source water protection, integrated water resource planning and outreach and education. Interns work 20-40 hours per week. For more details, see the general intern position description.

Specific internship opportunities will be listed in the “Employment” section above. The MWMO also accepts applications for internships on an ongoing basis. When an internship opportunity becomes available, MWMO staff will review your application and consider you for the position. Applications will be kept on file for one year from the date received.

My time as an MWMO intern solidified my direction of study, which is in water resource management. I gained a diverse skill set and expanded my knowledge base about everything water-related. I feel that this internship was the best thing that I could have done for my future career goals. I am confident in my studies, and bring all the experiences I had at MWMO with me wherever I go.
