MINNEAPOLIS — The Mississippi Water Management Organization (MWMO) is pleased to announce that Emily Resseger has been selected as the MWMO’s new Monitoring, Assessment, and Research Program Manager. She began her work at the MWMO on Sept. 28, 2023.

In her new role, Resseger (pronounced “ress-egg-er”) will lead the MWMO’s water quality monitoring team and oversee the development, implementation, and reporting of the MWMO’s monitoring and research programs.

“I’m excited to start my work at the MWMO. We have a wealth of current and historic monitoring data to draw from, and I’m looking forward to working with staff to derive insights from that data to help the MWMO better target its work of protecting the Mississippi River,” Resseger said.

A professional engineer, Resseger started her career in private consulting, where she worked on new developments and assisted local communities with planning efforts. She then moved on to the Metropolitan Council, where she worked with cities and watersheds to evaluate the long-term quality of rivers and streams in the region and to understand the risks to our infrastructure from climate change.

Resseger said she has seen how local organizations like the MWMO can lead the way in innovative practices. In her new role, she plans to ensure that the MWMO’s work is supported by data and research. In the long term, she also hopes that the monitoring efforts can help residents better understand their connection to the Mississippi River.

“So much of our work happens upstream of the river, but it’s important to recognize that this is a really beautiful resource and that we want others to cherish it and to want to protect it,” she said.

Resseger has a Master’s Degree in Water Resources Science and a certificate in Program Evaluation, both from the University of Minnesota. She lives in South Minneapolis with her wife and two cats. In her free time, she enjoys rowing on the Mississippi River.
