R.L. Stevenson Elementary School was recently awarded the Outdoor Learning on the Riverfront grant through the Mississippi Watershed Management Organization. The $3,000 grant will allow the school to expand outdoor learning opportunities by creating a rain garden and butterfly garden in the center of the newly created turnaround area near the playground.

One organization in Minnesota is keeping a close eye on the northern part of the Mississippi River through an extensive water quality monitoring effort that includes the river, a stormwater drainage system, and local lakes and wetlands.

In the state of 10,000 lakes, it's important to have clean water. Right now the Mississippi Watershed Management Organization is partnering with the University of Minnesota to try and figure out where pollutants are coming from now. 

The Dakota County Soil and Water Conservation District has partnered with four local watershed organizations — the Vermillion River Joint Powers Organization, the Black Dog Watershed Management Organization, the Lower Mississippi River Watershed Management Organization and the Eagan-Inver Grove Heights Watershed Management Organization — to create the Landscaping for Clean Water program.
