Mississippi River Story* that Inspired the Art:
“I’m an undergraduate student at the University of St. Thomas. And my first encounter of the Mississippi River came when I started college at St. Thomas. And my friends and I, pretty early on in our first year, discovered what a joy it could be to walk down to the river and experience the changing seasons, you know, especially fall, in our first semester. And just kind of get away from the city and the busyness of campus, and just get a small, small taste of being more connected with nature and the outdoors. I think it’s just really amazing how vast it is and how many different ecosystems and forms of nature are supported by the river. And then this summer I actually had the opportunity to canoe a little more upriver in Northern Minnesota on the Mississippi, and it was a really magical experience, just noticing the details along the river bank, and the stillness and yet vibrant activity of the river was really amazing.”
