Watershed by Bike II
Sunday, August 20, 2017 at 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Join Saint Paul songwriter, poet and cycling advocate Ben Weaver for a short (less than 6 mile) bike ride from the Mississippi Watershed Management Organization (MWMO)through the Holland neighborhood and back to the Mississippi River and the MWMO. The group will make several stops en route to experience this watershed area and discuss questions such as: What is a watershed? How big is your watershed? Learn how we can nurture a healthy relationship with the great Mississippi River through our daily choices that impact the watersheds in which we live.
Along the ride we’ll notice the path water travels through the neighborhood to the river and make a brief stop for a snack break. There will be time at the beginning and end of the ride to explore the MWMO campus where you’ll see raingardens and many other features designed to collect rain runoff, minimizing its ability to carry pollution to the river. Expect to hear a little music and poetry as well. All ages and abilities are encouraged to join for this event.
On the day of the ride, meet at the Mississippi Watershed Management Organization Stormwater Park and Learning Center. On-street parking is available, if you choose to drive.
THIS EVENT WILL BE RAIN OR SHINE. If there is lightning or severe weather, the event will move indoors for a mini concert and watershed interpretive activity onsite in the MWMO building.
This ride will be led by Ben Weaver and is sponsored by the Holland Neighborhood Improvement Association with a grant from the Mississippi Watershed Management Organization.
