Former Mississippi River Green Team member Connie Xiong (2010–2012) opted to pursue more environmental work after leaving the green team. She recently worked with the Mississippi River Fund as a volunteer engagement specialist. In this role, she helped coordinate volunteer groups in the Mississippi National River and Recreation Area to remove invasive species through the habitat restoration program. She said she enjoyed working outside and educating volunteers on the importance of their work.
Connie says being on the Mississippi River Green Team taught her valuable work skills and gave her the confidence to do public speaking. Her favorite part about being on the team was “seeing the effort and work that we’ve done.” Connie is pursuing a degree in Human Resource Development at the University of Minnesota—Twin Cities.
