Minneapolis City Council to Commemorate First Ever National Mississippi River Day

MINNEAPOLIS — Communities up and down the length of the Mississippi celebrated the first ever National Mississippi River Day on June 2, kicking off the River Days of Action (June 1–15) with a variety of events, proclamations, and public activities focused on honoring and protecting the river.
Here in Minneapolis, the City Council will commemorate National Mississippi River Day and the River Days of Action at its June 5, 2025 meeting with an honorary resolution recognizing the Mississippi River’s vital role in shaping the cultural, environmental, and economic life of our region and our nation.
The Mississippi Watershed Management Organization (MWMO) will join establishing organization One Mississippi and other partner organizations — including National Park Service, Mississippi Park Connection, Freshwater, and Friends of the Mississippi River — at the Council meeting to highlight the importance of protection and stewardship of the river.
You can read the resolution and watch the presentation at City Council TV – City of Minneapolis.
