A New Look for MWMO and a Clearer Path Forward

MWMO has a new look and a clearer way to tell our story.

If things look a little different today, you’re not imagining it. You’ll see a refreshed logo, updated visuals, and a more consistent voice across our website, newsletter, social media, and out in the community.

But this isn’t just a design update.

It’s about making our work easier to understand, more accessible, and more connected to the people we serve and to the Mississippi River we all share.

Why a New Brand?

MWMO 2016 LogoWhen MWMO launched its first brand and website in 2016, it marked an important moment. It gave shape to a young organization finding its footing; establishing a presence, building partnerships, and beginning to define its role in revitalizing the Mississippi River.

In the years since, that work has expanded in every direction. We’ve deepened our technical expertise, strengthened partnerships across cities, agencies and communities, and expanded our programs, our reach and our impact.

And as we grew, something became increasingly clear: Our work was getting harder to explain.

Not because it lacked purpose, but because it had become more complex, more interconnected, and more embedded in the systems that shape our communities.

We operate at the intersection of science, infrastructure, and people. We plan and fund green stormwater projects, monitor water quality, and connect communities to the river through education and collaboration.

That work matters. But it hasn’t always been easy to see or to understand.

Building a Brand with Purpose

That insight became the starting point.

From there, we invested in the internal work by strengthening our organizational culture, committing to equity, improving accessibility, and asking bigger questions about our purpose and impact.

Because before you can communicate clearly with the outside world, you have to be clear with yourself.

Working with Little Co., we focused not just on what we do, but why we do it.

Because when people understand the “why,” everything else becomes clearer.

This new brand helps us clarify our role in a complex system and connect our work across science, infrastructure and community. It allows us to tell a more human story about the river and our shared future, and to inspire action — not just awareness.

At its core is a simple idea:

We exist to empower all to revitalize our community’s most essential water body.

And a belief that guides how we do that work:

Collective action is the means to lasting impact.

Those aren’t just statements; they’re a framework.

They shape how we design projects, how we partner, and how we show up in the community. They connect our technical work to something bigger: a shared responsibility for the Mississippi River and the future it supports.

What Comes Next

Today is a beginning, not a finish line.

You’ll start to see it take shape across everything we do, from our website and publications to our programs and partnerships.

And like the river itself, this work will continue to evolve. We’ll continue refining how we communicate, always working toward greater clarity, accessibility, and connection.

Because at the end of the day, this isn’t about a logo.

It’s about helping people understand their role in something bigger.

A Shared Future

The Mississippi River has shaped this region for generations. Today, it continues to connect us across neighborhoods, cities, and communities.

Our work is one part of that story.

This new brand helps us tell it more clearly, more honestly, and with a deeper invitation:

This is shared work. And it belongs to all of us.
