Pillsbury School fourth-graders created a bike-centered service learning team, the River Riders (aka Pedal Power). Students from this Northeast Minneapolis school conducted several trash and pet debris cleanups. They also collected water samples and practiced other basic water research, and visited historical and cultural sites along the Mississippi River.
River Riders created posters to share what they learned with other students, and had conversations with their families about their observations. Their advocacy project, “Re-think Your Drink,” helped to create more awareness within their group, as well as among the families of students involved.
