The tools below will help you promote your project while correctly giving MWMO funding credit.
MWMO Brand Style Guide
The MWMO’s Brand Style Guide includes information on appropriate use of the MWMO’s logo, typeface, interpretive sign templates, and other design elements. It is intended for use by partners, grantees, graphic designers, members of the news media, and MWMO staff.

Sending Out Press Releases
Sending a press release to your local newspaper or other news media organizations is a great way to get the word out about your project. We have created a template that you can download and use to create your own press release.

Some tips on sending out press releases:
- Don’t be too wordy. Try to fit your entire press release on a single page of paper (front and back). Shorter is usually better.
- Make sure you don’t forget any important details. Always remember to include “Who,” “What,” “When,” “Where” and “Why.”
- Don’t be afraid to include relevant photos or graphics, if you have them.
- Be mindful that reporters have deadlines. For weekly or monthly publications, you might want to contact them well in advance of their next issue.
- If emailing your press release, copy and paste the text directly into the email, and also attach it as a PDF.
- Make sure you recognize project partners for their contributions, and give them a heads-up that you plan to send out a press release.
Don’t be afraid to send your press release to news organizations of all sizes. If you know the names of specific reporters, you can try contacting them directly. Otherwise, most news organizations offer a general email address and phone number for submitting news tips. (These can usually be found right on the organizations’ websites.)
When deciding whom to send your press release to, think about all different types of media — newspapers, TV, radio, blogs, etc. You could also send it to your local neighborhood association for inclusion in their next newsletter.

Do you need photos for a brochure or a presentation, but can’t afford to pay for images from a stock photography website? We’re here to help!
Although it’s easy to find lots of photos on the internet, it’s important that you respect the owners’ copyrights and only use photos with the artists’ permission. To make things a little easier for you, we put together a list of resources and a small library of photos that you may use to help promote your project.
Minnesota Pollution Control Agency
One great source of environment-related photos is the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency. The MPCA publishes many of its photos to Flickr on a Creative Commons license. This means you are free to use the photos as long as you follow certain guidelines. These include crediting the MPCA as the source of the photo, not using their photos for commercial purposes, and following certain other restrictions. We encourage you to read the full details of the license before using any of their photos.
The MPCA has also helpfully organized many of their best stock images into albums so that you can easily browse by subject. You can browse their photo albums here.
Pixabay is a good source of free images that are in the public domain. This means that you can use them without asking permission or giving credit to the artists.
The MWMO has a large library of photos, some of which are posted on our Flickr account. If you have a specific need, feel free to reach out to us directly. We are happy to help you find photos that will meet your needs.
